Power and industrial steam, gas & combined cycle turbines. Shell Turbo S4 GX 32 is used as the lubricating oil of choice in modern steam, gas and combined cycle turbines, especially those needing enhanced anti-wear performance to protect highly loaded gearboxes.
Further industrial applications. Shell Turbo S4 GX 32 may also be used for other industrial applications requiring a high performance gas turbine oil, such as the lubrication of turbo compressors
Properties and benefits of Shell Turbo S4 GX 32 are:
- Extended oil life. Shell Turbo S4 GX 32 provides exceptional resistance to degradation, even under high oxidation and thermal stress. Excellent results in both the “ASTM dry TOST” and the “TOST life test” (ASTM D943) demonstrate the potential of Shell Turbo S4 GX 32 to deliver extended service life, reduced maintenance costs, and less downtime for maintenance compared with conventional mineral oil technology.
- Equipment protection. The excellent prevention of deposit formation provided by Shell Turbo S4 GX 32 enables lubrication of gas turbine bearings under the hottest conditions with minimal deposits and sludge formation. This helps prevent premature wear and reduces the risk of unplanned shutdowns. As gearbox loads in turbines increase, it is essential for an oil to provide high anti-wear protection. Shell Turbo S4 GX 32 offers improved wear protection for heavily loaded gearboxes and helps keep operating conditions optimal under demanding circumstances, without compromising deposit resistance or oil life.
- Improved system efficiency. Rapid air release makes Shell Tellus S4 VE an ideal hydraulic oil for modern hydraulic systems where reservoir volume is limited. Fast air release reduces noise and helps prevent pump wear by minimizing air entrainment at high pressure. The excellent filtration and water separation performance of Shell Tellus S4 VE helps keep equipment clean. Shell Tellus S4 VE also provides precise control thanks to its optimized “stick-slip” characteristics. Shell Tellus S4 VE meets and exceeds the stringent cleanliness class (ISO 4406).
- System efficiency. Demulsibility, air release, foam resistance, and resistance to filter plugging are critical factors for oils used in the latest generation of geared turbines (particularly turbines with shorter oil drain intervals). Shell Turbo S4 GX 32 delivers excellent performance in all four areas and helps maintain optimal operating conditions.
