Shell Helix Ultra Professional AB-L 0W-30 for diesel engines is approved according to the Mercedes Benz MB 229.52 specification. It is formulated specifically for use in diesel engines with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The lowSAPS formulation protects the particulate filters against clogging.

- Fuel Economy. Meets or exceeds ACEA fuel economy test M111FE (CEC-L-54-T-96) with a 2.6% improvement in fuel efficiency (compared to the reference oil).
- Mercedes-Benz specific tests. Exceeds a range of tests including the MB M271 engine sludge test, M271 wear test, OM646LA wear test (CEC-L-099-08) and NEDC fuel economy tests: W204 C250 CDI (engine OM651), W204 C350 CDI (engine OM642), W204 C200 K (engine M271 ML18), W204 C350 CGI (engine M272 DE35).
- Engine Cleanliness. Exceeds DV6C (CEC L-106-16) oil dispersion at medium temperature test, VW TDI test for stuck piston rings and piston cleanliness (CEC-L-78-99), Sequence IIIG (ASTM D7320) piston cleanliness and oxidative oil thickening test, and ASTM Sequence VG sludge test (ASTM D6593).
