Can shell tellus S2 Mx 46 be used in a 2013 Deere 210G LC excavator
For a John Deere 210G LC, you generally should not use Shell Tellus S2 MX 46 as a top-up or drop-in replacement.
Here’s why:
Deere specifies ISO VG 46 “zinc-free” hydraulic oil for these excavator hydraulic systems (Deere even sells it as “Zinc-Free Hydraulic Oil, ISO 46”).
Deere also warns that zinc-type additive oils must not be mixed with their zinc-free excavator hydraulic oils (mixing can require a complete system flush).
Shell Tellus S2 MX 46 is an ISO HM / DIN 51524-2 HLP anti-wear hydraulic oil (standard AW/HLP type). Its TDS does not present it as a “zinc-free excavator oil,” so it is the wrong type to mix with Deere’s factory-fill zinc-free fluid.
What to do instead
Use Shell Tellus Zinc Free S2 VX 46 instead. https://www.oilonline.store/shell-tellus-zinc-free-s3-vx-46
This product is not only Zinc Free but alaso has a higher viscosity index. This is important when having much temperature changes like you have in Canada.
