  • Castrol Aircol PD 68

    CASTROL Aircol PD 68

    Rotary Screw Compressor Lubricant

    Application CASTROL Aircol PD 68

Aircol PD grades are ashless oils recommended for the lubrication of rotors, bearings and gears in rotary compressors, especially the oil flooded screw type with lubricant drain cycles of up to 2000 hours under normal use. Normal use in screw type compressors is defined by a maximum air discharge temperature =/< 100°C as defined by ISO 6743-3:2003. Aircol PD can be used for either normal or severe duty lubrication of reciprocating and rotary drip-feed air compressors, as defined by ISO 6743. Normal duty is described as:- discharge temperatures =/< 165°C; differential pressures =/< 2.5 MPa (25 bar); discharge pressures =/< 7.0 MPa (70 bar). Severe Duty is described as:- discharge temperatures > 165°C; differential pressures > 2.5 MPa (25 bar); discharge pressures > 7.0 MPa (70 bar). Aircol PD compressor oils exhibit low carbon forming tendencies and meet the requirements of the DIN 51506 VDL classification for reciprocating compressors having air discharge temperatures up to 220°C. Selection of the required viscosity grade should be based upon the compressor manufacturers’ recommendation. However as a general guide Aircol PD 32 and 46 are suitable for oil flooded rotary compressors, whereas Aircol PD 68 and 100 would be selected for lubricating the crankcase and cylinders of reciprocating compressors. Aircol PD 150 is recommended for sliding-vane compressors, or for reciprocating units at high ambient temperatures. The Aircol PD range is fully compatible with nitrile, silicone and fluropolymer seal materials. Aircol PD is classified as follows: DIN 51506 classification - VDL; ISO 6743/3 - DAA and DAB for reciprocating air compressors, DAG for rotary air compressors. Aircol PD meets the requirements (for appropriate viscosity grade) of major compressor manufacturers such as Atlas Copco, Champion, Sullair, Compair/Broomwade, Ingersoll-Rand, Kaeser and Bauer.

Piston Compressor Oil: The Silent Power for Reliability

In nearly every sector where speed and efficiency are crucial, piston compressors play a significant role in powering machines and tools. However, what many people overlook is the essential role that piston compressor oil plays in maintaining the smooth operation of these powerful machines. In this article, we delve deeper into the importance of piston compressor oil, why it is crucial, and how to ensure optimal performance of your piston compressors.

Why is Piston Compressor Oil so Important?

Piston compressor oil plays a crucial role for various reasons:

  1. Lubrication and Sealing: Piston compressors operate under high pressure and require efficient lubrication to keep moving parts functioning smoothly. The oil also serves as a seal between pistons and cylinders, preventing leakage and increasing compression efficiency. The temperature in a piston compressor is much higher than in a screw compressor. This means carbon deposits can occur earlier. A good brand can prevent this, but if the temperature gets really high, choose a synthetic oil.

  2. Cooling: During the compression process, the temperature can rise significantly. Piston compressor oil helps dissipate heat and prevents machine overheating.

  3. Extended Lifespan: Well-maintained piston compressors with the right oil have a longer lifespan and require less frequent costly replacements, resulting in cost savings for businesses.

  4. Noise Reduction: The use of piston compressor oil helps reduce noise levels, positively impacting the working environment.

How to Choose the Right Piston Compressor Oil for Your E-commerce Business?

When choosing the right piston compressor oil for your business, consider some key factors:

  1. Viscosity: Choose an oil with the right viscosity that matches the specifications of your piston compressor. Incorrect viscosity can adversely affect performance.

  2. Lubrication Properties: Pay attention to the lubrication properties of the oil, such as the level of protection against wear and corrosion. High-quality oils provide better protection.

  3. Maintenance Schedule: Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule to ensure regular oil changes and sustained performance. If you use the piston compressor intensively, consider synthetic oil, as it will provide benefits with intensive use!

  4. Environmental Factors: Consider the environmental conditions in which your piston compressor operates. If it operates in a humid environment, choose an oil that provides extra protection against corrosion.

Questions and Answers

How often should I replace the piston compressor oil?

The replacement interval depends on the frequency of use and the specifications of your piston compressor. Generally, it is recommended to replace the oil every 3 to 6 months, but this may vary.

What are the signs that my piston compressor oil needs to be replaced?

Signs of worn-out oil include increased friction, unusual noises, sluggish performance, and visible wear on the pistons and cylinders. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's time to replace the oil for optimal performance of your piston compressor.
